LoungeNet Home Mark4 Mark3 Mark2 Mark1 Loungers In the beginning we were freshmen (freshpeople according to the Regents), new numbers in the system. Once past that first week of pseudo excitement and high-school-like rallies (WTF was "convocation" all about anyways!?) our lives changed quickly. Freedom was a new thing for most of us, and everybody coped with it in their own way. Some prepared, and fretted, and worried about all of the work ahead of them. Some lashed out, partied, and rebelled against what they needed to rebel against. And then there were those who searched for others of their kind, nerds, geeks, gamers, bug-eyed basement trolls, nimble fingered mouse jockeys, kindred spirits who were just dying to experience multi-player death match for the first time at it's finest: the humble beginnings of LoungeNet.

Our own phone lines; a new concept to some. OK, so most schools had ethernet by then with some kind of T1 access, ours was installed but not functional (and quite frustrating). On the brighter side, we could now download huge files without mom picking up the phone or the younger sibling begging to use it. All kinds of cool new things were popping up in fall quarter of '96. MP3s were just making their way into the public eye. Quake was fairly new, and Diablo had just come out. Warcraft was addicting and definately a worthwhile multiplayer game. What better time to assemble a room dedicated to computer gaming and testosterone? Don't get me wrong, there were females about, but on the whole the dick swinging factor was way up there. At any given moment you could probably hear enthusiastic gamers gloating about their frags or proclaiming their defeat with phrases such as "Suck it down!", "Fuck me in the Goat-Ass!", and an occasional "Fock!". A strange utopia you say? We saw it as indulgence at it's finest, a 24 hour LAN party.

In winter quarter of '96 we began to expand our scope of activities. The discovery of capture the flag patches for Quake prompted our own capture the flag games late at night around the Crown/Merrill Campus. Yes, we're all just big kids at heart, hide and go seek will never lose it's appeal. Surprisingly there were very few serious injuries (besides Tuan who always broke his ankle one way or another).

The second year the Lounge spread out but remained basically the same. The center of operations became 2nd floor of building two where the lounge acquired a humongoid tv and tons of speakers. Convienently downstairs lived Ryan/Brian with their tip cup and strip tease window, as well as the new addition Boris.
